KARACHI: A teenage girl was murdered allegedly by her stepmother and her ‘friend’ on the outskirts of the metropolis on Thursday, police and hospital officials said.

A senior police officer who wished not to be named said that the teenage girl was killed by her stepmother and her “boyfriend” in Shah Latif Town off National Highway.

The officer said the initial probe revealed that the victim caught her stepmother and her friend having illicit relations inside their home.

“The girl threatened them that she will tell everyone about their relationship.”

The suspects throttled the girl and placed the body on the bed and escaped from the crime scene. Another officer said that subsequently both suspects were caught and detained.

The male suspect claimed that he did not rape her, said the officer.

Robbed policeman kills two suspects in Liaquatabad

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil legal formalities.

Additional police surgeon of the JPMC Dr Summaiya Syed said that apparently there were no visible signs of rape. However, a woman medico-legal officer who examined her body has taken samples to ascertain the possibility of rape.

Robbers shot dead

Two suspected robbers were shot dead by an off-duty policeman after a robbery in the Liaquatabad area on Thursday, police said.

Sharifabad SHO Abdul Khaliq Ansari said that a policeman in civilian dress was on his way home riding a motorbike after performing his duty. When he reached Liaquatabad bridge near Al-Karam Square, two gunmen on another motorcycle intercepted him. They snatched cash from him at gunpoint.

As the suspects were fleeing, the policemen took out his pistol and fired at them from behind. They both suffered bullet wounds and fell off the bike. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead. The deceased were identified as Nasir Mannan, alias Baloch, and Salahuddin, alias Ramzan. Nasir had been arrested and sent to jail twice in robbery cases in the past, said the SHO.

The police claimed to have seized a TT pistol, a motorbike and some cash from their custody.

Suspected militant held

Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department on Thursday claimed to have arrested a suspected militant linked with a banned outfit who was allegedly involved in the killing of 14 people on sectarian grounds.

“The CTD conducted an action on the service road at Islamic Research Centre at Ayesha Manzil in FB Area, and detained the suspect, Syed Ali Raza Naqvi, alias Ali Raza, who belongs to the banned Sipah-i-Mohammad,” said a CTD spokesperson.

“The held suspect had gone abroad along with his accomplices and used to visit Pakistan,” added the official.

The CTD claimed that the suspect was organising some “boys” for carrying out terror acts in Karachi when he was arrested.

“The suspect was also in contact with boys who are fighting in Syria,” said a CTD press release.

It said he killed Mullah Tahir in the Taimuria area. He with his accomplices carried out an armed attack on a medical store in Sharifabad in which two persons were killed. He also fired at a car in Taimuria, killing two persons travelling in it. He also conducted firing on a photostat shop in Sharifabad, killing one person.

“He along with his accomplices opened indiscriminate fire on worshippers in Masjid Babus Salam in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri, killing eight people.”

After these “disclosures” by the held suspect, investigators were trying to check his record from the police stations concerned.

Water tanker kills two young brothers

Two teenage brothers were killed in a road accident in the New Karachi area on Thursday, police and rescue services said.

They added that the brothers were riding a motorbike when a water tanker hit and killed them on the spot in Sector 11-J. The victims were identified as Hamza, 15, and Bilal, 14.

The incident angered area people who caught the driver and subjected him to beating before handing him over to the police.

Residents told the media that owing to an acute shortage of water, tankers operated in congested localities.

Ban on pillion riding

The Sindh home department on Thursday imposed a ban on pillion riding for three days on account of the forthcoming Ashura.

“In continuation of this department’s notification dated July 28, the ban on pillion riding for Karachi division shall be for 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram,” according to a notification.
