KARACHI, Oct 31: Japanese experts have completed the initial study pertaining to the revival of the Karachi Circular Railway. This was announced by the city district government in a statement issued on Monday.

In a meeting, Japanese delegation apprised City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal of the details of the initial report.

Mustafa Kamal asked the delegation that the project pertaining to revival of the Karachi Circular Railway be given the final shape keeping in view the prevailing situation of traffic.

He stressed that it must be ensured that this project should be workable.

The delegation informed the nazim that in the light of the current study the recommendations would be finalized by December.

The mass transit cell, railways officials, transport communications department along with other organizations would later consider the proposed report in a review meeting and a decision would be taken at a detailed workshop to be conducted in this regard.

The delegation told the nazim that the members of the implementation committee for the project would be invited to visit Japan to study the system of circular railway there. As a member of the committee, the nazim has also been invited to visit Japan.

According to the statement, the final report in this respect would be submitted to the federal government in January.

The statement further pointed out that on the request of the federal government, the Japanese government had sent a 10-member team to Karachi on Sept 27.

The team prepared the feasibility report for the revival of the Karachi Circular Railway in collaboration with the concerned departments of Karachi Mass Transit Cell, transport communications department and the railways officials.
