KARACHI: A 48-year-old man was shot dead in Gulshan-i-Iqbal late on Thursday night, said police.

They added that Shahid Jawaid was gunned down by armed motorcyclists when he was sitting with his friend at a restaurant on Sir Shah Suleman Road.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital, confirmed that he was brought in dead. The victim suffered a bullet wound in his chest.

Aziz Bhatti SHO Adeel Afzal said that the murder might be the outcome of some personal enmity or a targeted killing.

He said that the deceased had remained associated with the MQM prior to the infamous speech of the party’s founder some years ago.

Presently, he was involved in real estate business. He had been visiting the same restaurant for last 20 to 25 years on regular basis where he used to hang out with friends.

Quoting the colleagues, the SHO said two suspects riding a motorbike appeared and shot at him and fled.

Elderly woman dies after being slapped

An elderly woman died after she was slapped during a scuffle between neighbours over a trivial issue in North Nazimabad late on Thursday night.

Taimuria SHO Fardad Shaikh said that a scuffle broke out between neighbours over car parking issue in Block-L, Saknan-i-Arafat Town, where reportedly Mrs Bano Ismail was slapped.

She suffered a heart attack and died.

The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where the relatives took it away without allowing doctors to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The heirs have also not approached the police for initiating any legal proceedings.

Man killed by teen after ‘sexual assault’

A 55-year-old man was stabbed to death off Superhighway on Friday.

SITE Superhighway Industrial Area SHO Imam Bux Lashari said that the man was stabbed and killed by his teenage roommate near Janjal Goth.

The officer said that the suspect was also injured.

The initial probe revealed that both the deceased and the suspect had brought cows for sale at the cattle market.

They lived in the same rented home where a scuffle broke out between them when the victim allegedly tried to assault the accused.

They attacked each other with knives, leading to the death.
