KARACHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh on Saturday lashed out at the Pakistan Peoples Party government in Sindh for their alleged failure to ensure timely removal of offal and sacrificial animals’ waste in Karachi and other parts of Sindh on Eidul Azha.
Speaking at a press conference here, Mr Sheikh alleged that the authorities in charge of disposing of the offal and animal waste were nowhere to be seen and waste had been left to rot.
He said it had created hazardous conditions for the people in various localities of Karachi and other towns of the province.
He said that he was ready to take the ministers and advisers like Murtaza Wahab and Nasir Hussain Shah to a number of the localities of Karachi where animal waste was left to rot.
Imran Khan will hold multiple political gatherings in Sindh districts next month
“They are only busy in photo sessions while people have been left to suffer due to deteriorating situation due to waste, garbage and dirt,” he added.
He feared that in case of more monsoon rain within the next few days, situation in Karachi might turn chaotic and warned the officials to remove the waste of sacrificial animals as soon as possible to avoid the outbreak of diseases.
Mr Sheikh said that during his visit to Larkana on July 23, he saw heaps of garbage and animal waste all around and people were in deep trouble due to poor and damaged infrastructure.
It was a matter of shame that the rulers, who could not provide a proper drainage system in a city like Larkana, were claiming to bring reforms in Kashmir and other areas if voted to power, he added.
PTI to sweep Kashmir election
He also advised the PPP to stop daydreaming about winning the elections in Azad Kashmir.
Mr Sheikh, who is also the central vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, said that his party would sweep the July 25 elections in Azad Kashmir since a recent Gallup survey showed that 67 per cent people there supported Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He maintained that the people of both sides of Kashmir fully knew who had stood for them in their struggle for freedom and incessant brutalities being unleashed in the occupied parts of the valley.
He said that recent moves by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Maryam Nawaz and PPP leadership during the elections campaign had exposed their ulterior motives that they only wanted to please their “friends” in India by issuing statements against the very sovereignty of the country.
He said that their party leaders were attacked during the election campaign and looted money was being used to buy votes.
He hoped that the candidates of opposition parties would be trounced by PTI candidates with huge margins. He warned that if PPP and PML-N leaders did not desist from dirty politics they should be ready for dire consequences.
He said that it looked as if the days of the PPP government in Sindh were numbered and now PPP rulers were only interested to amass more money from the exchequer.
PM to visit Sindh next month
He said that the prime minister would hold public gatherings in a number of the districts of Sindh this August.
Notables and those with stainless political careers would likely join the PTI during the expected visit of the PM, he added.
He alleged that high-ups of the Sindh government were least interested to launch an operation against bandits and outlaws despite the fact that Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed had a few months back assured them of their full support to purge the troubled areas of hardened criminals.
Replying to question about health cards for the people of Sindh, the PTI leader said that the high-ups of the Sindh government were creating hurdles in that process by not taking an active part at the time when the people of other provinces were given the cards for best healthcare facilities.
He said that besides completing megaprojects the federal government would now initiate more such projects in Karachi and other districts of Sindh.
