LAKKI MARWAT: A constable was injured seriously when he attempted suicide at the police lines in Tajazai on Saturday.

Officials said Arifullah, who is a driver and a resident of Shagai, was wounded when he shot himself with the official rifle after talking to someone on his mobile.

They said the injured was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tajazai, and later referred to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in Bannu. The police have registered a case and began further investigation.

Separately, the police seized hashish from a truck near Titterkhel on the Indus Highway on Friday night.

An official said when a narcotics eradication team along with Ghaznikhel police officials signaled a truck coming from Dera Ismail Khan to stop at the checking point the driver ran away. The cops gave him a chase but he disappeared taking advantage of darkness and the populated area along the highway.

The official said the police arrested an accomplice of the fleeing driver, and seized 30 kilogrammes of hashish from the truck. The arrested man was identified as Gul Tayyaz of Titterkhel. The police registered a case against him and his fleeing accomplice.

ANIMAL WASTE DISPOSAL: The tehsil municipal administration has divided the Lakki city into four zones with deployment of staff to collect and dispose of waste of sacrificial animals during Eidul Azha.

Tehsil municipal officer Yousaf Khan has appointed sanitary inspector Fatehullah Khan and head of water supply department Haji Anwar Kamal as focal persons to implement the Eid plan. Deputy commissioner Iqbal Hussain has directed to distribute biodegradable bags among citizens for offal disposal.

An official said the focal persons would ensure presence of relevant staff in all the urban localities during Eid days to keep the city clean.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Iqbal Hussain on Saturday directed the Naurang tehsil municipal officer to remove garbage dumps from the area.

The residents had complained that municipal workers dumped garbage in Aminabad locality of Naurang after cleaning a drain, which was causing foul smell.

In Lakki city, residents complained about standing rainwater near public sector schools in Michenkhel locality.

The deputy commissioner also directed Lakki TMO to remove standing water from the urban locality.
