KOHAT: Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has demanded of the authorities to appoint food technologists and research officers in the district for the promotion of new qualities of edibles and their preservation for sustainable marketing.

In a meeting senior research officer of agriculture research centre Zahid Saleem, the office-bearers of KCCI including Hafiz Raseed Paracha, Engineer Faiq Shah and Rashid Hayat Mohammad Rashid stressed the need for long-term cooperation between the chamber and agriculture department. They said that business community should take full advantage of modern technology, which would also create jobs.

They urged the lawmakers and officials to activate the food technology section in Kohat so that trade and commerce could flourish in the region. They said that research and training would usher in a new era for promoting of food-related business.

SCHOOLS: The local people have asked the district administration, private schools regulatory authority and police to take notice of using schools as wedding halls. They said that some schools were used as wedding halls, which was regrettable.

They said that the school buildings were left dirty with leftover food after the wedding ceremonies and students had to take classes in bad smell and greasy floor. They said that people rented the school building for ceremonies because of the low fee of Rs20,000 whereas the fee of a wedding hall was between Rs60,000 to Rs100,000.

They alleged that a school in Garhi Atta Khan was used at the end of every week as wedding hall. Same was the case of other institutions, they added.
