MULTAN: An official team on Wednesday recovered counterfeit medicines worth Rs120 million in a raid, arresting two suspects allegedly involved in the scam.

According to officials, a joint team comprising district administration, police and health department officials conducted a raid on a house in Chah Thalewala near Double Gate, recovering the fake medicines packed in boxes.

The raid was conducted as part of a campaign against the elements involved in manufacturing and sale of counterfeit medicines

Deputy Commissioner Ali Shehzad, District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Shoaibur Rehman Gurmani, Drug Controller Rao Sajid also reached the spot after the raid.

Health department officials seized all the recovered fake medicines.

DC Ali Shehzad said counterfeit antibiotics and other life-saving drugs were also among the recovered stock.He said a suspect, Afzal, who was involved in the scam and was arrested, was a habitual offender and had already been jailed.

“Some of the recovered drugs’ labels are carrying the name of a government hospital. The entire matter will be investigated thoroughly to expose the whole network,” he said.

KILLED: Two persons were killed and another was injured in a firing incident here on Wednesday at Ada Peerewala near Chowk Nagshah.

The car driver, Niaz Ahmed, who survived the attack, told the police that he was on his way back to Jalalpur Pirwala, along with Jam Shimla, Hafiz Faiz and Ghulam Akbar, after attending the hearing of a murder case against Nasir, son of Jam Shimla, who was in the jail on judicial remand and was granted bail.

He said near Ada Perewala two armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on the car and escaped from the scene after killing Jam Shimla and Ghulam Akbar on the spot.

Police said old enmity seemed to be behind the attack.
