PESHAWAR, Oct 27: The army has set up another 30 tent villages, raising the number to 61, in the quake-hit districts to provide relief to survivors. An ISPR press release on Thursday said that at least 22,000 displaced people were presently living in these villages.

Central cooking arrangements have been made to avoid accidents from fire, while special security measures have also been taken in these tent villages.

A refugee management cell has been established in Battagram district to facilitate registration of affected people who have started coming to the tent villages established at Bana, Pashto and Bandi areas in Alai valley.

HELP-LINES: Meanwhile, Corps Commander Lt-Gen Mohammad Hamid Khan has directed immediate establishment of help-lines at various places in the calamity-hit areas to record complaints and problems of the survivors and then army authorities would take instant action.

The corps commander issued these directives while attending a briefing on the army’s relief and rescue operations here on Thursday.

He also directed army doctors to take all precautionary measures to avoid an outbreak of epidemics and infections in the tent villages.

A team of the Army Medical Corps (AMC), comprising a pathologist, community medicine specialist and medical specialist, visited Balakot and Battagram to assess hygiene and sanitary conditions in the affected areas, whereas a team of Pakistani-US National Infectious Control Specialists from the USA has arrived to assist healthcare providers in implementing infection-controlling measures.
