KARACHI: A man was murdered allegedly by his wife in Qasba Colony on Thursday. Police said that tortured body of Aqil Badshah alias Sajjad, 35, was found at home.

He was stabbed to death as there were multiple wounds on his neck, chest and hands while a pillow was put on his mouth.

Pirabad SHO Pervez Bhutto said the victim was recently married and the couple was living in a rented house.

The officer believed that he had been killed by his wife and her alleged friend. Both the suspects managed to escape. The victim hailed from Mardan.

The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Rs10m robbery in Gulshan

Three suspects stormed a home in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, held residents hostage at gunpoint and took away cash, other valuables worth Rs10 million and a car parked outside the house, police said on Thursday.

According to the FIR lodged by complainant Khalid Mehmood, he was at home along with his family in Block-7 when suddenly three suspects entered the house.

They took him hostage at gunpoint and threatened him with dire consequences in case of resistance.

One armed robber stayed in a TV lounge of the house and took other family members hostage at gunpoint while two other suspects collected around 80 tolas of gold, US$8,500, Rs90,000 cash and two laptops from the house.

During the robbery, one suspect was continuously talking to someone on phone.

Protests against power, water shortage

Fed up with prolonged power failures coupled with water shortage, citizens held protest demonstrations in some parts of the metropolis on Thursday.

They blocked roads, which caused severe traffic jams, according to witnesses and police.

Residents of Delhi Colony held a protest against power outage and water shortage.

They blocked main road near Boat Basin. As a result, traffic was suspended on one lane of the road.

A police official added that the protest continued for one and a half hours.

In another protest, residents blocked Hub River Road near Rais Goth in Baldia Town against power outages.

They complained that they had been without electricity for the last two days. They chanted slogans against KE.

The protest continued for two hours, resultantly traffic was suspended on the busy road.

They left the road after talks with the police authorities who assured them of restoration of power supply.
