SAHIWAL: A lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight by unknown assailants near Anjum Farm Road here on Wednesday morning.

Lawyer Chaudhry Muzaffar Hussain was on his way home after dropping his children to school when he was attacked and shot dead.

Eyewitnesses told police that near Al-Fajar Garden, two unknown assailants riding a motorcycle fired on the lawyer and managed their escape. The lawyer received multiple bullets to his chest and succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

District Police Officer Muhammad Kashif Aslam formed a team to arrest the assailants.

Gala Mandi Police sent the body for autopsy to DHQ teaching hospital.

Gala Mandi SHO Imdad Hussain said forensic evidence had been collected and initial investigation showed rivalry the cause of the murder.

Meanwhile, the district bar has condemned the lawyer’s murder and observed a complete strike.

President District Bar Association Raja Javed Mahmood said a delegation met with police high-ups for early arrest of the killers.

ROBBERIES: Robbers looted cash and valuables in several hits here on Wednesday.

A private transport company manager, Riaz, was deprived of Rs1.5 million cash by four suspects near village 87/9-L. Riaz was on his way after drawing cash from a private bank near Ali housing society when four suspects stopped him and snatched the cash.

In another incident, three suspects stopped Ramzan near Farid Town graveyard and made off with two laptops, Rs10,000 cash and two mobile phones.

Sajjad Hussain was robbed of motorcycle and mobile phone having a value of Rs113,000 by three unknown men near grid station, GT Road. Muhammad Sajid was intercepted by two unknown armed dacoits near village 54/5-L, GT Road and was deprived of his motorcycle, a mobile phone and Rs52,000 cash.
