NAWABSHAH, Oct 24: Police on Monday claimed to have recovered a Hindu girl and arrested four kidnappers. Sources said Abbas Ali Unnar, a primary school teacher, and Amrita were in love and Mr Unnar was taking her to the court for an affidavit.
They said the Hindu girl wanted to embrace Islam and marry with the school-teacher but police intervened and arrested them.
The girl’s statement whether she had been kidnapped or if she had gone willingly with the man could not be obtained.
The Sakrand police said that Abbas Ali Unnar along with his friends Hanif Unnar, Ranjho Keerio and Imtiaz Mahar had kidnapped Amrita,10, daughter of Deewan Ramesh Kumar, when she was going to the Leelabad school with her sister on Monday.
The police said that after receiving a complaint from the family, a police party went behind them and arrested them near the Panama Board of the National Highway and recovered Amrita and handed her over to the family.
TPO Ismail Jamali told Dawn that the kidnappers picked Amrita when she was going to school and the SHO Sakrand along with police team chased them and arrested them.
An FIR under section 363 PPC was lodged against four accused and car (PG-4997) in which the kidnapped girl was being taken away was also impounded.
WATER SHORTAGE: Res-idents of the city are facing great hardship due to non-availability of water for the last four days.
The residents of Ghariabad, Manuabad, Essarpura, market road, Mohin Baazar, Mehran Colony, Azeem colony, Bhangwar colony, VIP road, police lines, camp-2 and other areas were suffering for the last four days due to non-availability of drinking water.
The Gujrah wah, which was the main source of water supply to the city was closed since last 14 days by irrigation authorities for desilting purpose as growers of Gujrah wah were demanding it since long.
The Nusrat irrigation division informed the taluka municipal administration and public through press that Gujrah wah would remain closed for 20 days upto end of October and asked the TMA to fill its water reservoirs before closure to ensure proper supply during 20 days.
The TMA Nawabshah failed to fill the reservoirs due to which residents were suffering.
The supply line of Rohri canal which was also random source of water supply to a part also damaged during this period.
The line regularly get burst since its started functioning and needs a proper check up that whether material was used for it.
The TMA Nawabshah was continuously warned by the DCO to stop the treatment of drinking water from bleaching powder as it was hazardous and substandard and start chlorination of water by using the installed chlorinators at water supply schemes but the TMA has so far failed to implement it.
Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan, when contacted informed that he has recently taken the charge and realise that water problem.
He said that he had immediately directed the concerned staff to fill the reservoirs by using tube-wells to ensure proper supply during Ramazan.
He said that he had been working for proper cleaning of drinking water which was his priority and would soon start using chlorine gas for treatment.
It was need of time that a through inquiry should be conducted into the affairs of the Rohri canal supply line and chlorinators installed at schemes so that citizens may get pure and clean drinking water on time as promised by government.
