KARACHI, Oct 24: Consul General of the Republic of Korea Suk-Chul Chang on Monday called on Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at the Governor’s House and presented him a cheque along with relief goods amounting to $7.2 million for victims of quake.
He told the governor that the donation was extended by the government, people and private sector of his country, and added that efforts were being made to collect more relief for the quake-hit people of Pakistan.
The delegation accompanying the consul-general comprised office-bearers of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry and heads of various industries.
Dr Ibad was informed that, at present, 19 relief and rescue teams having a total of 240 members were helping the quake-hit people. The relief teams consisted of the Korean Medical Association, National Medical Centre, Red Cross Society and other welfare and philanthropic organizations.
MONSANTO FUND: The Monsanto Fund, philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company, has pledged a sum of $250,000 towards the ongoing earthquake relief efforts.
“A donation of US$250,000 has been made to the Friends of the World Food Programme and supplemented by two-day salary of the Monsanto Pakistan to the President’s Relief Fund for Earthquake Victims-2005,” a press release issued by the company on Monday said.
President of the Monsanto Fund Deborah Patterson said, “We are proud to be partners again with the Friends of the WFP to help rebuild the lives of those who are affected by this natural disaster.”
NIUT: The Management Company of the National Investment Unit Trust (NIUT) has donated Rs10 million for quake victims from its profit.
Fifty per cent of the donated amount will go to the president’s quake relief fund and the rest to the AJK PM’s relief fund.
NIUT employees have also contributed their two-day salary towards the relief work.
SINDH BAR: A three-member delegation of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) led by Moin Azhar Siddiqui has distributed relief goods among quake victims in the far flung areas near Muzaffarabad.—APP
