SUKKUR: Fourteen people, including two brothers, were killed and 45 others injured when the passenger coach they were travelling in went out of its driver’s control and overturned near Rohri on Wednesday-Thursday night.
Condition of eight of the injured people was stated to be critical.
A medical emergency was declared at major government hospitals in Pannu Aqil, Rohri and Sukkur as soon as police received the report about the accident.
The coach bearing registration No. BYU-0686 was on its way to from Multan. The accident took place near Kalar Goth, within the limits of the Dubbar police station, along the National Highway, police said.
Regional in-charge of the Sukkur Edhi Centre Urs Mohammad Magsi said that 11 dead bodies were shifted to the Rohri Taluka Hospital and another two to the Pannu Aqil Taluka Hospital. One body was sent to the CMH Hospital, Pannu Aqil. The injured were also transported to the same hospitals.
Eleven of the deceased were identified as Mohammad Riaz and his brother Ghulam Abbas, Mohammad Ajmal, Allah Ditta, Kamran, Nadeem, Ali Akbar, Aamir Iqbal, Kishwar Akhtar, Nadeem Akhtar and Nazeer. Initial reports suggested that they belonged to Multan.
Three bodies were yet to be identified till last reports came in at around midnight Thursday. The condition of eight injured, Shahbaz, Sajjad, Naveed, Shakeel, Nadir, Imran, Faisal Mehmood and Mohammad Farooq was stated to be critical.
