FOOD inflation is pushing more and more people towards hunger, starvation and malnourishment. Good governance appears to be a distant dream in the country. Forget the remote areas, within walking distance of the seat of the government in the federal capital, food prices are inflated and are being openly sold in violation of the official rate list.

Shopkeepers charge as they wish and no magistrate from the city administration in Islamabad ever visits the markets to check the prices. Price lists are not displayed and there is no check whatsoever.

The administration must ensure price control not only in the sectors under the Capital Development Authority (CDA), but also in the peripheral suburbs.
