ISLAMABAD: The Daily “Prabhat” of Jullundur, spokesman of the Sikh community in India, has declared that the Sikhs are determined to get a separate homeland for themselves, from which nobody can stop them.

In a recent signed editorial, the paper’s Editor, Sohin Singh Soheta, said that the Sikhs were bound to succeed in their present struggle for a separate homeland, as they did in the case of their demand for a separate Punjab state. He said that the Indian rulers were denying the Sikhs a separate homeland in the name of the country’s unity and security.

He warned the Indian rulers that by their opposition to the Sikhs’ demand they would not be able to weaken the movement for a separate Sikh homeland; rather it would gain more strength and momentum. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Karachi,] Mr Nurul Amin, chief of the Pakistan Democratic Party said … the most urgent task facing the country, particularly East Pakistan, was to see a revival of full economic activity. … [H]e said “we have to redouble our efforts to make the leeway”. He said with a determined effort the economic setback could be made good in a short time.
