ISLAMABAD: Though the capital and Rawalpindi district have been witnessing a decline in Covid-19 cases for the last few days, there has been no let-up in the number of deaths from the virus as five more lost their lives in the area.

Islamabad reported 178 new cases in the last 24 hours compared to 182 a day earlier whereas Rawalpindi saw 55 people contracting the virus against 68 the previous day.

Officials of the capital administration said two deceased, who were male, belonged to the 60-69 age group and were residents of Chak Shahzad and Sohan.

During the last 24 hours, 3,096 tests were conducted in the capital and results of 93 men and 85 women came back positive.

Rawalpindi, Islamabad continue to see declining trend

The positivity rate in Islamabad stood at 5.74pc.

The officials said 35 patients were in the age group of 20-29, followed by 30 in age bracket of 50-59, 26 were aged 30-39, 20 each in 40-49 and 60-69 groups, 18 in 0-9, 17 in 10-19, eight in 70-79 and four were aged 80 and above.

They said 16 cases were reported from Lohi Bher, followed by 13 from G-9, 10 each from Tarlai and G-11, eight each from G-10 and Alipur, seven from F-6, six each from I-8 and Chirrah, five each from I-10, E-11, Rawat and Khanna, four each from Bhara Kahu, F-7 and D-2, three each from G-7, G-13, Kurri and Koral, two each from Sohan, F-10, Bari Imam and E-7 and one each from G-6, G-8, Chak Shahzad, F-8, G-5, Sihala, H-13, F-5, Shah Allah Ditta, G-12, F-15 and Pind Begwal.

Rawalpindi

Three persons died in Rawalpindi district on Wednesday and 55 people tested positive while 83 patients were discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours.

The number of Covid-19 patients reduced in the last two days as the testing was very slow in the district as only 200 to 300 tests were conducted in a day.

Habib Jaw, 60, a resident of Satellite Town, was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on May 11 where he died on Wednesday.

Jabeen Akhter, 75, resident of Murreer, was shifted to the Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre on May 11 where she died on Wednesday.

Aftab Ahmed, 57, resident of Kotli Sattian, was admitted to Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre on May 10 where he died on Wednesday.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 1,201 active patients. As many as 117 patients are in the hospitals including 49 from other districts. As many as 1,084 patients were isolated at home.

A total of 55 new patients were reported in the district, out of whom 41 were from the garrison city, four from Gujar Khan, three from Taxila, one patient each from Kallar Syedan, Kotli Sattian and Kahuta and two from Murree. Two patients came from Islamabad.

Out of the new patients, 26 were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 22 were under treatment in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 48 were in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, 14 patients were in Fauji Foundation Hospital, six in Hearts International Hospital and one in Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Hospital.

There are five patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 96 on oxygen and 26 are stable.

On the other hand, the district administration imposed Rs115,500 fine on violators of standard operating procedures in the district.

Teams led by assistant commissioner sealed 77 shops and imposed Rs81,000 fine.

Attock

Another patient succumbed to the virus while five tested positive during the last 24 hours, raising the tally to 2,085 in Attock.

According to the health authorities, a patient identified as Hassan Din, who was admitted to District Headquarters Hospital, died from the virus on Wednesday.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Kashif Hussain said all positive cases belonged to Attock city.

He said the number of active patients in the district was 151.

Giving details of active patients in the district, he said there were 113 active patients in Attock city, 16 in Jand, eight in Hazro, four in Pindigheb, seven in Hassanabdal and three in Fatehjang.

He said five suspected patients were also admitted to hospitals out of whom four were critical.— Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
