KARACHI: A 35-year-old woman was killed and her husband suffered serious injuries when a fast-moving water tanker hit their motorcycle in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday, police said.

They said the accident took place near Jauhar Morr. After the accident, the water tanker was intercepted by some enraged people but the driver, while abandoning his vehicle, managed to escape on foot.

“The woman, identified as Parveen, died on the spot,” said an official. “The man, Saeed, was moved to the JPMC [Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre] where his condition is said to be stable after initial treatment.”

The couple lived in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and was heading home when they had the deadly accident.

“We have seized the water tanker and investigations are on to trace the owner and driver,” the official said.
