MUZAFFARABAD: A couple and their daughter died and their three other children and driver were injured after their vehicle met an accident in Sudhnoti district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.

The victims were travelling towards Rawalpindi when their van plunged into a ravine from a dangerous portion of road near Azad Pattan Bridge sometime around iftar on Monday, a police official told Dawn from district headquarters Pallandari.

As a result, Muhammad Hanif, 65, his spouse Qaseeda Begum, 60, and daughter Shahnaz Akhtar, 25, died on the spot while three other children of Mr Hanif identified as Muhammad Shaukat, 35, Gulnaz Bibi, 22, and Amna Bibi, 19, and their driver Sohrab Javed, 30, were injured, he said.

The injured had been hospitalized and were out of danger, the official said.
