MOHMAND: An overhead water tank collapsed in Ambar tehsil of Mohmand tribal district, killing seven children and injuring one on Saturday.

A Rescue 1122 spokesman said the incident occurred in Gumbate area. He said a medical team was dispatched to the area soon after receiving information about the incident.

Locals said that two walls of the water tank gave way and, as a result, the whole structure fell down. The debris fell on children playing nearby, killing seven of them and injuring one. The victims were stated to be cousins.

The bodies and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Ghalanai.

The deceased included Rehan, 12, Amadullah, 6, Farmanullah, 8, Nafisa, 8, Wajhi, 6, Marwa, 4, and Muneeba, 5. The injured child was identified as Fahad.
