High Court frees Haji Kabir on bail

LAHORE, Oct 20: The Lahore High Court on Thursday ordered the release of former MNA from the NWFP, Haji Kabir Khan, on bail and suspended the sentence announced in his absence.

Haji Kabir, accused of misappropriation of Rs200 million, was directed to submit two bail bonds for Rs100 million each.

The former MNA who was produced in the court had surrendered on Wednesday as a legal obligation to enable himself to plead for the hearing of his writ petition against his conviction by an accountability court.

The AC had sentenced Khan to three years in prison for failing to appear in the court for more than three years in a reference of public funds embezzlement. However, he surfaced within a few days after the conviction to move the LHC.
