QUETTA, Oct 20: One of the two labourers of a construction company, who were kidnapped from the Behecha area of Turbat district on Wednesday, was killed on Thursday. The other worker was set free.

DIG Makran range Ghulam Qadir Thaboo told Dawn on phone that the kidnappers had killed one of the labourers and released the other who told the police about the fate of his colleague, Munawar Iqbal, resident of Jhang, Punjab.

The DIG said that heavy contingent of law-enforcement agencies have launched search operation to arrest the kidnappers.

Sources said that a group of armed men on Wednesday attacked the site camp of the company, which was constructing a road from Hoshab to Gwadar. Crusher plant and other machinery were destroyed in a rocket attack. The attackers kidnapped seven men at gunpoint, but later released five of them.

The police said the kidnappers took the two labourers and later killed one of them and allowed the other to go, who informed the police about the killing of Munawar Iqbal. The body had been recovered from the area.

CONSPIRACY: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousuf has said that the kidnapping of a construction company worker was a conspiracy against the people and the development process in the province.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday night, he said that it was a terrorist act and the government would not tolerate such attacks. He pledged to take strict measures.

The chief minister directed law-enforcement agencies to ensure immediate arrest of the attackers and protection of non-local companies and their workers. “Government would not bow down by such acts,” Jam Yousuf said.

“The elements who wanted to harass the companies through terrorist activities were against the prosperity of the people,” he said. He condemned the kidnapping and killing of labours in the name of non-locals and said that such incidents were inviting to re-thinking of government’s stand.

He announced that his government would provide full protection to the companies and settlers residing in the province.
