KARACHI, Oct 20: Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro on Thursday slammed the treasury benches for not taking up any serious business and said that it would be better to suspend the assembly if the majority is not serious in addressing peoples problems.
Mr Khuhro was addressing a news conference in his assembly chambers during which he was critical of the chair for not taking the business seriously and opined that the ruling coalition had apparently made it a part-time affair because its members were not prepared to sit in the house four hours a day.
When he was pointedly asked whether the opposition would resign if the assembly was not suspended, as opined by him, Khuhro said the treasury benches should take the lead because it was a reflection on their ability if the assembly was not working properly.
Mr Khuhro said that he wanted to move an adjournment motion regarding dilapidated condition of schools in the province, but the chair did not allow him to take up this serious matter.
He said in view of the disaster of earthquake, this issue was a serious and the education minister herself admitted that most of the school buildings were in dangerous condition and the life of students was at stake.
Khuhro said that he wanted to suggest the treasury benches to improve coordination between the districts and provincial government and resolve this issue because it is related to life of the children.
He said that the treasury bench was trying to divert the attention of the house towards unnecessary issues just to defer his adjournment motion to discuss the rigging in the local bodies election.
He said that a minister walked out from the house standing committee meeting when the opposition pointed out that according to rules there was binding that house proceedings should be at least for four hours.
He said the attitude of the minister was insulting, especially for the Speaker. He said the debate on disaster was also suspended while the nation was in shock.
