KARACHI, Jan 22: Water supply to the city from the Dhabeji pumping station remained suspended for one hour on Tuesday, causing a shortfall of about 22 million gallons of water.
According to the KWSB sources, pumping of water from four pump houses of the Dhabeji pumping station, each having five motors, came to a halt at 6.50am on Tuesday following tripping of the extra-high tension feeder. The power supply to the pump houses was restored at 7.50am the same day.
With the stoppage of the pumping, water supply to various parts of Landhi, Malir and Shah Faisal towns was badly affected.
Asked about the impact of the short supply, the KWSB sources said that several parts of the above mentioned towns as well as nearby Khokrapar were affected.
SHORTAGE: Acute water shortage continued to persist in different localities of the city for the third consecutive day, due to delay in repairing of a leaking pipeline.
Water supply to Soldier Bazaar, Catholic Colony, Shikarpur Colony, Gurumandir and the nearly localities was badly affected on Sunday after some leakages developed in a 24-inch dia pipeline near Quaid’s mausoleum.
The water supply to the affected localities could not be restored till Tuesday because of the delay in rectifying the leakages of the pipeline.
The residents of the affected areas urged the KWSB’s managing director to direct the concerned staff to immediately restore normal water supply so that they could be saved from incurring additional amount on buying private tankers.
OVERFLOW: Filthy water gushing out from a choked sewerage line has spread over a street in North Nazimabad’s Block A, posing a serious health hazard to the residents and the passersby.
The office-bearers of the locality’s Anjuman-i-Falah deplored that the sewage coming out from some choked gutters often remained stagnant in front of a street.
