Three die in mosque jirga shooting

PESHAWAR, Oct 19: Three persons were killed and one was injured during a jirga being held in a mosque in Khwarakhel village of Badhber on Wednesday afternoon. Another five people were killed and as many injured in separate incidents in the city, police officials said.

Hamidullah, son of Mohibullah, and Muneef, who had conflict over some issue, were holding a jirga in the mosque in Khwarakhel village in Badhber, in the outskirts of the city, after Asar prayers, they said.

The area notables were also invited to resolve the issue, when Muneef during the discussion became furious and pulled out a gun and opened fire on Hamidullah and his supporters.

As a result, Shakirullah, son of Mohibullah, Noshdil, son of Abdul Wahid, and Tehsinullah, son of Amir, received bullet injuries and died on the spot. While, Haji Wafadar who had come to the mosque to offer prayers was also injured.

Muneef escaped the scene after the shooting. The police after registration of a case have started search for the accused.

In Bhana Mari area, Rafiullah, Inayatullah and Shafiullah, sons of Ghulam Rasool, allegedly opened fire on his rival Minhaj on Wednesday. Minhaj was injured in the firing, while a passer-by, whose name could not be known, received bullet injuries and was killed on the spot.

Meanwhile, a bullet-riddled body of a man Mobeen, 25, was found in Tajabad Khwar area of Badhber. Police have registered an FIR against the unknown accused.

ACCIDENT: A passenger bus(Peshawar-C 2665) ran over a 3-year-old child, Khalid, son of Chaman Gul, in Bhana Mari area. The driver of the bus escaped the scene after the incident.

A truck also hit one Nahida, wife of Aaqil Shah, on the Ring Road killing her on the spot. The driver sped away after the accident.

In a separate accident, an Edhi ambulance No 1482 hit a motorbike near general bus stand on the Grand Trunk Road and injured three persons, said one of the injured Zeshan, a resident of Sheikhabad. The driver of the Edhi ambulance escaped after the incident.
