KARACHI: A man was shot dead while another was wounded in Machhar Colony late on Tuesday night, said Docks police.

They added that neighbours belonging to two different communities fought with each other over some issue at Sheerazi Chowk.

The incident occurred at 12.40am. As a result, two people suffered bullet wounds. They were taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced Mehroz Khan, 30, dead on arrival while Zakir Husain, 25, was admitted for treatment.

The suspects escaped from the crime scene.

‘Robber who snatched over Rs6m cash held’

The Special Investigation Unit of the police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a suspected robber who along with his accomplices snatched millions of rupees, mobile phones and other valuables in different parts of the city, said SIU SSP Haider Raza.

Acting on a tip-off, the SIU arrested the suspect, Jameel Ahmed, at Rizvia Chowrangi and recovered an illegal pistol from his possession.

During interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he along with his six other accomplices had snatched over Rs6 million and other valuables in Ayub Goth, New Karachi, Ahsanabad and Sohrab Goth recently.
