SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The security forces gunned down an active member of proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan tribal district on Tuesday.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said the IBO was conducted in Ladha area. The statement said the security forces had received reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.

During intense exchange of fire between the security forces and the miscreants a terrorist identified as Pir Alias alias Assad was killed.

The ISPR said Assad had been an active member of TTP since 2006.

The deceased terrorist had joined TTP’s Baitullah Mehsud group and remained involved in terrorist activities, including attacks on security forces.

He had joined TTP’s Shehryar group after the killing of Baitullah Mehsud.

Sources said Pir Alias was also involved in extortion.
