Hamza Ali Abbasi advocates modesty for both men and women after PM Imran’s statement

"No matter what anyone is dressed like or behaves like, unconditionally lower your gaze and guard your modesty."
09 Apr, 2021

Hamza Ali Abbasi always has a lot to say — and with the announcement that he will now be devoting his life to the teachings of religion — it comes as no surprise when the Alif star's social media (Twitter in specific) was updated with some self-reflections following the prime minister’s recent ill-received comments.

Prime Minister Imran Khan's speech spread over the internet like wildfire and netizens were furious that he blamed temptation and vulgarity for rape. Abbasi has expressed his loyalty to the premier and his vision a number of times, but this time it seems that even he can’t defend the prime minister.

"Random thought: In my personal understanding, God has made it clear in the Quran that sexual instinct is one of the most powerful instincts in both men and women. Hence, God emphasizes on overall modesty and responsible behavior from both men and women, equally, in this particular area," he said.

"Speaking as a man, in my understanding of what I believe is literal speech of God, Quran, God has very clearly told all MEN who say they are Muslims that no matter what anyone is dressed like or behaves like, unconditionally lower your gaze and guard your modesty," he added. So while he didn’t actually say he disagreed with PM Imran, as many, many people have done, he did clarify that men need to lower their own gazes, no matter what anyone else is wearing.

Abbasi is currently in the process of writing a book. In a previous announcement, he had said it would "obviously be about God" and was expected to be completed by June 2021.

He also let everyone know that he would be making numerous videos for his YouTube account, all discussing various topics related to religion and faith. "You can agree or disagree with what I have to say but please don't doubt my intentions or try to make up an agenda for me," said the now ex actor. "Whatever I'll be saying will be from my heart."

Hamza and IK are of the same Ilk, west hating psuedo intellectuals. We're children like Zainab not dressed 'modestly' when they were attacked ?

Hamza is right and it does not mean that if a crime is committed it shouldn't be taken to task. Religion is a strong force to establish the norms in the society if adhered to.

@Chrís Dăn These people in their sick mind are lowering their eyes while committing this horrible crime against minors. People with sick minds can interpret to their personal desire. Internally, part of us helplessly dies when we hear/read a news of sexual harassment and ignorant comments made by IK, common person, religious and government authorities.

It would have been better had he said, "no matter what anybody is dressed like or behave like, you do not rape. Fullstop." Why is it hard for people to understand the issue of consent, that NO means NO, and that somebody's dress, actions, perceived immodest does not allow anybody to rape them and that it is in fact insulting to insinuate that men can't keep it in their pants. Self control is not just for women. It's for men too.

In 2013 30 immodest sheep raped by a Pakistani man in Saudi Arabia. In 2017 an immodest hen was raped by a 14 year old boy in Lahore In 2020 an immodest kitten died from being gangraped by a 15 year old and his friends in Lahore. Clearly humans aren't the only immodest beings. We must veil all animals and keep them caged away from non mahrams.

If only khan would apply the same morals to his young sons. Wonder how they would react. A large percentage of men have a hard time growing old, a d there is a tendency to become very judgemental and vilify the very lifestyle that you yourself embraced when young. Let people live, judge only yourself. If a woman wears make up she is "asking for it" but if a man at 65 dyes his hair to look young (also make up)....it's considered good grooming? Same old song.

@Zeeshan Ahmed rapist will rape no matter how anyone is dressed. Women covered from head to toe are raped. Women of very small age are raped. We need to come up with a via to protect these women against these rapist. We have already tried covering women that did not work. I think we should teach men from a younger age about consent and effects of rape on women. That will solve the problem.

Stop with the modesty talk. Start blaming the culprit. Even if someone is dressed "not-so modestly" does not give anyone a right to rape him/her.

Hypocrite Muslims one maybe, if one says one thing and does another; its your Ammaal that matter. Simple: RAPE is abhorrent and inhumane, no more no less! When its all said and done, more is said than done in all these response comments here and elsewhere; so called scholars of Islam. Ask yourself, do you live by what you say, don't grow beards and ankle pajamas to look Pius?

Keeping oneś eyes down during communication is a sign of lack of confidence / inferior complex co-mingled with a probability of being a liar also. All international coroprates like officers who can communicate with a clear eye to eye contact. How men following IK will be able to move forward in a world based upon self control& confidence in oneself? Keeping eyes down means a man suffers from self confidence& self control.

Pedophilia is a severe mental disorder by which the predation of children becomes obsessive and often leads the perpetrator to rape and murder children mostly under the age of 13, a condition that in most cases requires long-drawn psychiatric treatment under expert supervision. The argument that PM IK and others are mistakenly expounding revolves around modest attire as a possible bulwark against rape. The correlation between skimpy clothing as a trigger leading to possible rape is weak. For instance, Scandinavians tend to be one of the most immodestly dressed but reportedly suffer relatively very low levels of rape, an affliction that, evidence suggests, is rooted more in mangled cultural practices and illiteracy, not in the lack of enforcement of Zia ul Haq variant of draconian religious edicts.

@Alian Khan @Rao Amjad Ali Exactly. This mentality and belief in rape myths (instead of existing scientific research explaining sexual aggression as sexual violence etc) fails to explain reality such as: Necrophilia (rape of dead corpses) Pedophilia (rape of kids) Zoophilia (rape of animals) I deliberately call it rape because neither can CONSENT. All this happens across Pakistan daily. But denial rules.
