REPRESENTATIVES of 41 Nations gathered in the … League of Nations building on Monday [April 8] for a “creditors meeting” — the winding up of the League’s affairs and transfer of its work and assets worth £2,750,000 to the United Nations’ Organisation.

Opening the session that will bring down the curtain on 26 years’ existence of the League, Dr. Karl J. Hambro of Norway, who was … re-elected President of the Assembly, declared that the League lacked moral courage in years gone by. “We know that we were reluctant to shoulder responsibility for great decisions when greatness was needed,” he said. “We know that we cannot escape history.”

The Assembly appointed two committees, one to deal with financial and administrative matters under the Chairmanship of the Indian representative, Sir Atul Chatterjee, and the other for general questions under the Chairmanship of Prof. M. Bourquin of Belgium.

Dr. Hambro said no political questions should be discussed at the Assembly, which he hoped would get through its work by Easter.
