KPT handles 975,028 tonnes

KARACHI: A brisk cargo handling activity was witnessed at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) during the outgoing week (March 1-5) by handling a total of 975,028 tonnes in which the share of import and export stood at 673,148 tonnes and 301,880 tonnes, respectively.

Containerised cargo held a bulk share of 307,133 tonnes in total import volume while second and third highest cargoes were 131,066 tonnes of oil and liquid and 100,738 tonnes of wheat.

In exports, the share of containerised cargo was 168,725 tonnes followed by 88,970 tonnes of clinkers, 15,955 tonnes of mill scale, 15,298 tonnes of cement, 10,680 tonnes of oil and liquid and 2,252 tonnes of bulk cargo.

At Port Qasim, a total of 690,254 tonnes of cargo was handled (March 1 to 4) with 458,469 tonnes of import and 235,815 tonnes of export cargo.
