ISLAMABAD: The capital police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two persons involved in two separate murder cases reported in 1994 and 2003, sources told Dawn.

A deputy director of the CDA was gunned down on Feb 17, 1994, near his house in G-6/4 while a student of Quaid-i-Azam University was killed over a hostel room dispute on Feb 23, 2003.

The police said CDA official, Ibrahim Khan, was gunned down mistakenly by two persons. One was arrested a few months after the incident from Faisalabad while the other was declared a proclaimed offender and held from his hideout in Islamabad on Monday night.

In the student murder case too, the murderer was declared a proclaimed offender as he had fled to Dubai soon after the incident.

Secretariat police SHO Khurram Shahzad told Dawn that Rehman Azam Cheema was residing in Hostel 4 of the QAU.

Some students, including the suspect, who was a student of BS third semester, forced him to accommodate another student in his room. This led to a quarrel between them which was however resolved shortly, the SHO said. After a few hours, the suspect called Cheema through another student to his room and shot him there, he added.Cheema was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), where he died a month later after recording his statement.

The investigators also got a red warrant for the suspect but remained unsuccessful to arrest him, the SHO said, adding his travel history was obtained and vigilance mounted over his traveling. The investigators got information about his arrival in the country which led to his arrest during a raid on Tuesday, he added.
