UNITED NATIONS, Oct 12: The “Flash Appeal” of $272 million issued by the United Nations on Tuesday was only the initial appeal and it would be revised and upgraded as need arises, a UN official said on Wednesday.

The Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary-General of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Hamsjoerg Strohmeyer, told reporters at a briefing in New York that the UN officials and agencies on ground would continue to assess the needs of some one million people who are in acute need of assistance.

Mr Strohmeyer said that in response to the flash appeal almost a $100 million had been pledged so far by several member states and more pledges are expected.

Responding to a question he said that the pledges received by the United Nations are separate from the bilateral commitments made to Pakistan by member states.

The states who have made pledges to the flash appeal include Japan $20 million followed by United States, Italy, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Germany, Nepal and Maldives.
