DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police arrested a suspected terrorist and seized 850 grams of explosives and weapons from a van at the Hathala checkpost here on Monday.

A police official said during search of the vehicle, the Kulachi police arrested the suspected terrorist, Azeem Marwat, and recovered 850 grams of explosives, two rifles, a pistol, two barrels of heavy weapons and 67,496 rounds. He said three other suspects travelling in the van managed to flee.

The police registered a case against the four under different sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Separately, an improvised explosive device went off in the University police station area, and another was defused by the bomb disposal squad personnel. Police said no casualty was reported from the incident.

An official said the Gomal University police and bomb disposal squad personnel reached the spot and conducted a search operation after the blast at Dhappaan Wala checkpost on Sunday night.
