JHANG, Jan 21: More fake currency notes of Rs1,000 have been found in the district after the unearthing of a major fake currency scandal on Jan 2.
The National Bank of Pakistan’s main branch, Jhang Saddar, deposited Rs5 million with the general post office on Jan 18. Out of this money, the GPO authorities sent Rs100,000 to the MCB’s Bhakkar Road branch for a bank draft to be sent to the post office in Lalian, Chiniot tehsil.
During counting, the bank cashier found one of the notes fake. He told GPO employee Hasan about it who went to the NBP’s main branch to complain about the fake notes. When he returned to the MCB, he was handed over to police. However, the police released him after preliminary investigation.
The police also took the currency notes in their possession and collected another six bundles of Rs100,000 each from the GPO for investigation. During scrutiny, it was found that each bundle had a fake note of 1,000 denomination. Later, the police took the entire amount of Rs5 million in possession. The matter is being investigated.
