RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police have deployed 20 personnel to regulate traffic at Soan Bridge on GT Road where construction work has been underway at a snail’s pace for a long time.
Responding to public complaints, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Mazhar Iqbal on Tuesday visited the under-construction bridge to review the flow of traffic and deployed additional personnel.
He said due to the construction work on the bridge, there was traffic congestion on GT Road/Jhelumb Road and at High Court Chowk.
The additional personnel have been deployed at High Court Chowk, Soan Bridge and the affected part of GT Road. Barriers and obstructions have been removed and additional personnel deployed there.
Two inspectors, two beat in-charges and 16 wardens will perform duty in two shifts – one in the morning and the other in the evening - to maintain the flow of traffic to and from GT Road to Morgah.
In addition, a forklift has also been assigned patrolling to take action against vehicles obstructing traffic and violating parking ban on the road, he added. The CTO, who recently assumed the charge, has pledged to streamline traffic in the city by using all possible resources to facilitate the citizens.
Meanwhile, the CTO paid a snap visit to the licensing branch at the traffic police headquarters and checked merit and transparency in the issuance of the licences and talked about facilities available to the citizens.
On the occasion, the CTO said the traffic police were providing all facilities through the one-window operation to facilitate the citizens and discourage corruption. Driving test is being taken through an online sign test and automated driving test video system. The online video of the citizens visiting the office is also monitored.
