Minimum wages

Published January 21, 2021

ALTHOUGH minimum wages for skilled and non-skilled workers have been notified at the provincial and federal levels, they are not being implemented, and some employees, like, say, the security guards, are getting as low as Rs10,000 per month.

The relevant government departments should take notice of such violations and devise a system where all employees, including domestic servants, should get their due rights. They should be registered for Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) and universal health programme. All domestic employees should also be registered with the labour department to end exploitation as well as child labour.
