TAXILA: Five of a family died and six others were injured in an accident on Wednesday when a rickshaw fell into a roadside ditch after being hit by a speeding dumper near Jublat Bridge on G.T. Road.

The accident occurred in the jurisdiction of Hassanabdal police station.

According to the injured victims, the family was on their way back to Jalloo village. The deceased were identified as Mussarat Bibi, Jameela Bibi, Rukhsana Bibi, Zainab Bibi and her eight-month-old daughter Marwa.

Upon receiving information about the accident, rescue officials reached the spot and shifted the deceased and injured to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital from where a woman and her two children were taken to Rawalpindi due to their critical condition.

Hassanabdal police have registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, 10 people were injured when a passenger van they were travelling in fell into a water channel in the jurisdiction of Jand police station.

The injured were identified as Abdul Khaliq, Nayyaz Shah, Behar Shah, Nazar Hussain, Mohammad Younas, Muneer Khan, Behar Bibi, Haneefa Bibi, Farzana Bibi and her three-year-old son Furqan.

The injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Jand.

Two of them, Abdul Khaliq and Furqan, have been shifted to Rawalpindi due to their critical condition.
