PESHAWAR, Jan 21: The NWFP government has raised over Rs145m under the heads of mutation fee, stamp duty and registration fee during the first six months of the current financial year, official sources told Dawn here on Monday.

The money raised involves over Rs80m under the head of mutation fee, Rs60m from stamp duty and Rs4.9m under the head of registration fee.

On proportionate basis, the province recovered 99 per cent of six months target under the head of registration fee, some 82 per cent under the head of mutation fee and 60 per cent under the head of stamp duty.

Though in comparison with the recoveries made in the corresponding period during the last financial year, the province recorded slight improvement in its recoveries under the heads of registration fee and mutation fee, recoveries on account of stamp duty remained considerably less than the amount recovered during the same period in the last financial year.

At the close of the first six months of the last financial year, the province had raised a total of Rs4.1m under the registration fee against Rs4.9m this year, Rs 81.2m mutation fee against Rs81.4m and Rs66.9m under the head of stamp duty against Rs60m.

Decline in stamp duty this year affected the provincial government’s over all collection as at the close of the first six months of the last financial year the province had raised a total of Rs152m under the three heads whereas this time around the province raised a total of over Rs145m making some 71 per cent of the Rs205m target the province was supposed to collect under the three heads on proportionate basis at the close of the first six months of the current financial year.

The provincial government’s finance managers have fixed Rs200m target under the head of stamp duty, Rs200m under the head of mutation fee and Rs10m under the head of registration fee.

Official sources appeared optimistic that the province would be able to meet the annual targets set under the three heads as at the close of the first half of the current financial year the province had already achieved 50 per cent of the total annual target under the registration fee head, some 40 per cent of the total annual target under the head of mutation fee.

However, under the head of stamp duty the provincial government’s chances of meeting the annual target, at present, appeared dim as the provincial government recovered only 30 per cent of the total annual target under the said head by the close of the first six months of the current fiscal year.
