FAISALABAD, Oct 5: Jhang Bazaar police registered a case against seven people, including a yarn dealer, on the charge of killing a naib nazim and injuring his nazim here on Wednesday.

The case was instituted on the report of injured Mian Zulfiqar Ali, the nazim of union council 286.

The nazim claimed that he along with his naib nazim Jawed Iqbal was on election campaign in favour of ARD nominees for the town nazim and special seat candidates in Judgewala. He said yarn dealer Imtiaz Rabbani Billu came by his car and threatened them with dire consequences for taking part in the election drive.

In the meantime, he said four people on two motorcycles also came there and opened indiscriminate fire on both of us. As a result, Jawed Iqbal died instantly while he sustained bullet wounds. He said he was later shifted to the local Allied Hospital.

He claimed that Imtiaz Billu’s nomination papers for the special seat of peasant for the Jinnah Town was rejected by the returning officer and subsequently by the Supreme Court on an objection filed by their group.

Police have registered a case against Imtiaz Billu, Zareef Khan Niazi, Zulfiqar Ali Jatt, Raja Nasir Jahangir and four unknown people under sections 109, 148, 149 320 and 324 PPC.

Special investigation cell teams raided the houses of Imtiaz Billu and other accused, but failed to arrest them.

Earlier, all the three nominated accused were granted bail before arrest by a local court till Oct 12.

Meanwhile, Lt-Gen Tariq Pervaiz (retired), his son and town nazim candidate Adnan Tariq and murder case accused Raja Nasir Jahangir and Zareef Khan Niazi told reporters that the case registered against political workers was baseless.

They said that ARD leaders had cooked up the matter just to gain political mileage, which would be defended on all legal and social forums.
