GUJRANWALA, Oct 5: On the directive of the Lahore High Court, the Civil Lines police on Wednesday registered a case against former district and sessions judge Riaz-ul-Hassan Alvi under the Anti-corruption Act on charge of embezzlement.

According to the FIR, Mr Alvi, during his tenure as Gujranwal district and sessions judge allegedly auctioned 30 motorcycles, fortified by police under section 550 PPC, but did not deposit the recovered amount in the treasury.

The former judge also allegedly misplaced the auction record. He also allegedly gave nine cars to his relatives.

The petitioner, Allah Ditta, who is sessions court superintendent, alleged that Mr Alvi had embezzled the amount received from the buyers.

The Nazir of session court, Sajid Nasim, and record keeper Maqbool Hussain also alleged that the former session judge did not hand over the auction record to them. Police have started investigation after registering case under sections 379/409, 5/2/47 of the act.

strike: The district bar association will observe a complete strike against an increase in POL prices on the appeal of the Pakistan Bar Council on Friday (tomorrow).

While a resolution will also be adopted unanimously with the demand to withdraw the decision of increase in POL prices.

This was stated by bar secretary-general Ahwer Tufail Warraich in a press release issued here on Wednesday.

The release asked the lawyers to participate in the strike and boycotted court proceedings.

SECTION 144: DCO Khalid Masood Chaudhry banned political meetings and rallies by imposing Section 144 with immediate effect for one month throughout the district.

LOOTED: Bandits looted two houses and a postman in three different strikes here on Wednesday.

Reports said that half a dozen armed bandits barged into the house of Dr Liaquat Ali in Kotwali and held the inmates hostage. They tied with ropes Dr Saeed, son-in-law of house owner, and his family members, collected Rs200,000 in cash, 30 tolas of gold, two cell phones and escaped.

The bandits also intercepted postman Khadim Husain on house’s door and snatched Rs32,500 in cash from him as well.

Four dacoits sneaked into Bilal Ahmad’s house in Peoples Colony, held the inmates hostage and locked them in a room. Later, they scooped Rs35,700 in cash, 10 tolas of gold and other valuables and fled.

Police have registered separate cases and are investigating.
