BAJAUR: A Shepherd was killed and another injured in a mortar attack from across the Afghan border in Salarzai tehsil of the Bajaur tribal district here on Tuesday.

According to local residents and the district administration officials, unknown militants fired mortar shells in Laittay Bando area. As a result, a shell hit two shepherds who were grazing their sheep in the mountainous area. Sherin Khan was killed on the spot and Kashmir Khan got injuries.

The body and the injured were brought to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, wherefrom the injured was referred to a Peshawar hospital. The body was dispatched to his native town for burial.

The Bajaur Scouts reached the area soon after the incident. The cross-border attack infuriated the local people who called for action against the militants.
