Who run the Grammys? Beyoncé. Who had their dream come true? BTS. Who's very unhappy? The Weeknd

Beyoncé’s domination this year came as a surprise since the singer did not release a new album.

The Grammy nominations are out and like always, there are some who are over joyous and others who are bitter about being ignored!

Here's everything you need to know about the nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards to be held in Los Angeles on January 31, hosted by Trevor Noah:

All hail Queen B

Beyoncé leads the Grammy Award nominations with nine nods, including song and record of the year for Black Parade. Beyonce’s nine nominations made her the second-most nominated Grammy artist in history, with a total of 79.

She is tied with Sir Paul McCartney, who earned a nomination this year for best boxed or special limited edition package. Beyoncé is only behind her husband Jay-Z and Quincy Jones, who have both earned 80 nominations each.

Beyoncé’s domination this year came as a surprise since the singer did not release a new album.

BTS over the moon after making history

For years, BTS have said their dream is to be Grammy-nominated. And they’ve finally achieved it.

The K-pop band is nominated for best pop duo/group performance with Dynamite, marking the first-ever Grammy nomination for a K-pop band.

“Above all, ARMYs are the ones who helped this miracle come true — of us getting the Grammy nomination. Thank you always,” BTS said on Twitter, addressing the group’s fan base, known as ARMY, an acronym for Adorable Representative MC for Youth.

The Weeknd is VERY unhappy

The Weeknd angrily slammed the Grammy Awards, calling them “corrupt” after the Canadian pop star walked away with zero nominations despite having one of the year’s biggest albums with After Hours and being tapped as the Super Bowl halftime headline performer. He also topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with Blinding Lights and Heartless.

“The Grammys remain corrupt,” the three-time Grammy winner said on Twitter. “You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency.”

Now we're not taking sides but we're just going to leave one of our favourite songs of the year here.

Justin Bieber has mixed feelings

Justin Bieber earned four nominations, but the singer also criticised the Grammys' decision-making as well. He said music from his fifth studio album Changes was wrongly viewed as a pop album, rather than an R&B project.

Bieber gave thanks saying he was “flattered” for being acknowledged but thought being left out of the R&B category was a mistake.

“I set out to make an R&B album,” he wrote on Instagram. “’Changes’ was and is an R&B album. It is not being acknowledged as an R&B album, which is very strange to me.”

Bieber was nominated in the categories for best pop solo performance, best pop duo/group performance, best pop vocal album and best country duo/group performance.

Some surprises, some not so much

British singer Dua Lipa, pop star Taylor Swift and rapper Roddy Ricch got six nominations apiece.

Swift and Dua Lipa will compete for the top prize — album of the year — along with R&B singer Post Malone, British band Coldplay, female band Haim, avant-garde Briton Jacob Collier, American soul band Black Pumas and American alternative R&B singer Jhene Aiko.

Billboard called the nominations for album, record, song of the year and best new artist surprising for the range of “superstar nominees as well as out-of-nowhere newcomers”.

Very few people know that Beyonce and her husband rapper Jay Z due to their close friendship with former President Obama and his family had a reserved "guest room" for them in the White House, Washington, D.C. for eight years, where she and her family could come and stay any time without much protocol and restrictions.
