KARACHI, Oct 1: The DCO and Caretaker of the city government, Fazalur Rehman, on Saturday imposed ban under Section 144 on serving meals in wedding and valima ceremonies with immediate effect.

Taking notice of violation of the Supreme Court’s judgement, banning meals in wedding and valima ceremonies, the DCO ordered the police and other concerned departments to take stern action against violators.

He directed the EDO Revenue to ensure implementation of the ban through DDOs Revenue of towns and lodge reports of violation in their respective police stations so that legal action could be taken.

Mr Fazal asked citizens as well as owners of hotels, marriage halls, clubs and other organisations not to arrange meals in wedding ceremonies, warning them of strict action in case of violation.

He directed the DIG Operations to restrict all police stations to implement Section 144 in letter and spirit.—PPI
