Jacobabad woes

Published November 9, 2020

WHILE civic issues afflict the whole province of Sindh, Jacobabad, in particular, presents a sorry state of affairs. Once a well-planned and organised town established by the colonial rulers, Jacobabad today is a picture of official neglect.

Every road in the city has heaps of garbage and filth. These dumps hamper the smooth commute of citizens and are also a breeding ground for diseases. The sewerage system remains choked, with gutters overflowing just about everywhere. The deplorable conditions of roads and thoroughfares pose a problem for the sick and the elderly.

The district and local administrations seem indifferent to these issues, and people seem resigned to their fate.

Despite the availability of adequate resources, the appalling conditions in the city are baffling as this city has always voted for the party that has been in power in the province for more than a decade.
