ISLAMABAD: The capital police have arrested three people in the murder case of a bank manager.

A former wife of the deceased is among the three suspects, a police spokesman said, adding she has confessed to murdering the man.

Syed Raza Hussain Naqvi was shot dead by two unidentified motorcyclists near his office in the limits of Koral police on Sept 17.

Following the incident, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan directed DIG (Operations) Waqaruddin Syed to ensure the arrest of the killers.

A team from the Homicide Unit investigated the case and managed to arrest the three suspects.

During the preliminary investigation, the woman said the deceased had divorced her recently. She said she had also made a plan to kill him earlier but he escaped.

In the second attempt on Sept 17, she said she got her former husband killed. Further investigation is underway into the matter, said the police.

The IGP announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the members of police team.

Meanwhile, the IGP said the capital police have added a golden chapter to its history by rendering sacrifices in the line of duty.

He was addressing participants of a heavy bike rally held to pay tributes to martyrs of the Islamabad police and keep the capital green and safe.

The IGP said the courageous role played by the police has won hearts of people as the brave custodians of law and order prevented many disasters by timely nabbing mischievous elements.

He said around 50 policemen embraced martyrdom in the line of duty but did not bow before the anti-social elements.

The rally passed through various roads and culminated at Martyrs’ Monument at Police Lines Headquarters. The participants laid wreaths and offered Fateha for the departed souls.
