A Pakistani version of Netflix is ready to be launched, claims Fawad Chaudhry

While it sounds like a great idea in theory, Twitter had some reservations.

Sounds like Fawad Chaudhry has been busy behind the curtains.

The Federal Minister of Science and Technology announced via Twitter that a Pakistani version of Netflix was in the pipeline.

"We are all set to launch Pakistan’s first OTT TV (Pak version of #Netflix). Technology part is complete, have asked PEMRA to prepare a guideline on content and we will be all set to launch in PPP mode, it'll be just another humble contribution," he wrote,

While it sounds like a great idea in theory, Twitter had some reservations:

Some were hopeful though:

We for one are anxiously waiting to see what Chaudhry has up his sleeve; never a dull day.

So its a streaming platform? There are plenty out of box solutions readily available some even open source! Amusing to see how basic school level projects elsewhere in the world become ‘cutting edge’ tech in Pakistan!

Great! India doesn't have a single desi OTT. They are welcome to see ours!

People should learn to appreciate good things happenibg in their country. Unfortunately we celebrate independence day every year but we dont have an inch of patriotism. Learn from the enemy neighbouring country how their media portrays their country before the rest of world!

The pose appears to be an attempt by the Minister to launch himself as a model. Is he thinking of an alternate profession. Is there a need.

The key for Netflix isn't the technology, it's the content. Do we have the content to run Desi Netflix?

Why do you have to reinvent the wheel? If "not made here" is your issue then your SOL ... if censorship is an issue then you have the same issues as Netflix.

Well, I personally believe that Media should know why ALT Balaji, Zee5 and Hotchoi didn't compete well with Netflix India. What's the problem in buying a global franchise? A home TV will only stay local. People don't get our language but that's literally the use of subtitles. Minorities have been using Netflix to globalize their content and as far as India went with that, 'Never have I ever' staring Meytri Ramakhrishna as Devi went on to be biggest binge watch number on Netflix.

It is not the job of the minister of science and technology to announce things like this. Come on, there are better things to do for you out there.

We don't need Netflix or its cheap Copy, this is for a small privilege class. Need basic necessities available to all people which is difficult to obtain not luxuries or useless things. I think Fawad Ch. needs to see a doctor and get himself examined. No wonder person from google left.
