PRIME Minister Imran Khan taking notice of ever increasing inflation and unemployment is praiseworthy. The two problems are the greatest challenges faced by the nation at the moment, but the manner in which the whole thing is being handled is a bit perplexing.

The government claims that a mafia is responsible for deliberately creating inflation, but neither takes action against them nor reveals their identities. Moreover, the officers of public administration services are responsible for controlling the prices and quality of food supply in every district. If the prices are getting out of control, the district management should be held accountable since the officers enjoy big salaries and perks and privileges out of tax-payers’ money and they are delivering nothing in return.

The government needs to rethink its strategy to rein in inflation.
