KARACHI: Top twelve basketball teams from six zones of the city will vie for honours in the Rashid Minhas Basketball Tournament which will commence on the recently renovated Arambagh-Abdul Nasir courts here on Friday (today).

An opening exhibition match will be played between DMC South and KMC in which leading basketball players of the metropolis will participate.

The tournament will be held on league basis and the 12 teams have been distributed in four groups. The final will played on Nov 1.

Deputy Commissioner South Irshad Ali Sodhar will be the chief guest on the occasion and will inaugurate the tournament which will be held under the auspices of Karachi Basketball Association, President KBBA Ghulam Mohammad announced on Thursday.

It may be mentioned here that the historic basketball courts of Arambagh, which are nearly 60 years old, have been beautifully refurbished and renovated on the special instructions of DC Sodhar and the KBBA has decided to award him a Quaid-e-Azam gold medal for this fine gesture on Friday.
