Amir Khan recently expressed his desire to join politics in Pakistan, with a steadfast belief that his contributions could work towards improving the condition of the country.

In a Facebook post, the athlete, without taking names, mentioned he was offered the opportunity multiple times during the course of his career.

"I have been asked numerous times if I would join politics in Pakistan. Being a sports man and being an ambassador for the country, I’m honoured to asked if I would take part in politics, in fact I would love to help the country," the boxing champion stated.

He mentioned sports, education and child labour as areas of interest which he would work to improve.

"We will all leave this world one day, but whilst we still around we all should do our bit."

"I've sat with many politicians and army generals agreeing and disagreeing on topics in the country. My heart is clean and I would want the best for Pakistan. Lets see how things play out. My old stable mate world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao also joined politics," Khan added.

Saying he has been closely observing the work Manny Pacquiao has done in Philippines, the middleweight title holder was sure he could do the same for Pakistan.

"It will be a massive decision to make, I one day might consider this," he said, asking his followers for their opinion as well.

However, two days later, Amir took to Twitter to announce that he had declined his own offer.

"Talked to my advisory team, I will decline the offer to join Pakistan politics. The country is run by an amazing PM Imran Khan and we all have trust in him. I prefer continuing my charity work in UK, Pakistan and rest of the world to make areas better and safer," he posted.

In response, many put forth their own analysis of the situation and had some fun with it:

Wishing luck to Khan for his future endeavours, whatever they may be.

No not sports again. This time try someone from Lollywood. But let IK rule for 10 years, it's good for India.

Good decision but wrong perception that country is in good hands. Look at commodity prices increase in last two years.
