BAHAWALPUR: Covid-19 claimed the life of another senior doctor here on Monday night.
The number of deaths due to the virus has gone up to 59 in Bahawalpur.
Prof Dr Fayyaz Ahmed, head of medical ward-4 of the Bahawal Victora Hospital (BVH) /Quaid-i-Azam Medical College (QAMC), had contracted virus about a fortnight ago and was being treated at the BVH. A few days ago, Dr Fayyaz was shifted to the ICU where he breathed his last on Monday night.
His funeral prayers were offered at the QAMC grounds.
This is the second death due to coronavirus of senior medical officer during the past two weeks. Earlier last week, Dr Aslam Parvaiz Bhatti, a retired government doctor, fell prey to Covid-19.
According to health department’s Tuesday’s update, the death tally rose to 59. During the past twenty-four hours the number of positive cases in the district rose to 1,807 with one more case.
