RAHIM YAR KHAN: Two teachers were suspended from service on charges of handing down corporal punishment to girl students for coming to school late.

The incident occurred three days ago at government girls elementary school, Rukanpur, a small town some 54kms from here.

A student of the school took snaps on her mobile phone and uploaded it on social media.

After the chief minister took notice of the incident, SST Hameeda Farooq and EST Shehla Farooq were suspended from service following a departmental inquiry.

Chief Executive Officer District Education Authority Rana Muhammad Azhar suspended both teachers. The notification said Hameed Farooq and Shehla Farooq were placed under suspension with immediate effect jointly on account of “inefficiency”, “misconduct” and “corporal punishment” under section 6 of the PEEDA Act-2006.
